Create Work That You Are Proud To Promote

Are you proud of the work that you offer?

If you answered yes, why aren’t you talking about it more?

I know, I know. We don’t want to be self-promotional. We don’t want to be pushy. We don’t want to be “that guy (or girl)”, the annoying bro marketer that relentlessly hawks their crap. But there is a difference between trying to make money and creating something that you truly think will benefit others.

So why do you not talk about it more? Is it because you think you will be ignored by most people because they don’t get it, or they don’t need it? Do you think what you offer is so specific that most of the people who you are connected with wouldn’t be interested? So you then do nothing?

Let me ask you again. Are you proud of what you do?

If you are, you need to share it more.

I learned something about myself when we launched Total Life Freedom School a few weeks ago. You should be in there, by the way. I learned that I was afraid to do what I just did. Not only was I afraid to talk about what I did, but I also was gun-shy to have the courage and generosity to share it and invite people in. Generosity, you say? Yes, it’s generous to offer something that will be a greater benefit to them than it will be to you.

And it took offering something at such a low price for me to finally learn that.

Ironically, we have had little problem filling our higher priced mastermind. We have had the same with our online community. But I learned that I haven’t talked about them much. It is a scarce resource with limited spots, so referrals and word of mouth filled those spots. And as much as I love word of mouth marketing, it can be a detriment in some ways, because it can make you complacent in developing your marketing skills.

In the months before launching Total Life Freedom School, I got on the phone with dozens and dozens of people to get their feedback on what we were about to open. And at some point, I asked a specific question.

“Do you know what I do?” I asked them point blank.

I was unprepared for the response that I got.

Overall, they said that they saw that I wrote books and did live retreats. Those were the two most popular answers. Yes, we do them both. But they are not close to being our primary income streams. Yet that’s all they knew! Our three top primary income streams were not even mentioned.

     Now, why is that?

That’s all on me, my friend. The books and the retreats were the only things I posted about, so that’s what they knew of me. Why didn’t they know about the other stuff? Because I rarely mention it. I never promoted it. It’s great that word of mouth kept it rolling, but I have done our work and message a great disservice. Should my ability to help people create a business that builds multiple income streams to create a life of freedom be limited to a small number of people? Of course not.

But deep down, I was afraid. The masterminds, community and coaching are higher-priced offers. They are for a specific type of person that I enjoy working with. So I kept it quiet in public because I liked that it was based on referrals and word of mouth. But I also kept it quiet out of fear. I was afraid of rejection. I was fearful of making an offer and attracting only crickets from people who didn’t understand. And it wasn’t them not being interested that scared me. I seek rejection every day. It was posting something that got little response (therefore making me look like a failure in public) that scared me. That felt good to write. I don’t know if I’ve expressed that before.

So, when we launched the school, we put a price tag on it that was a no-brainer. I will teach you how to do this through video lessons and written stories for $9 a month. I’ll even give a $1 trial to try it out.

All of a sudden, I had no fear of sharing. I’ve talked about it here a few weeks in a row. I’ve made more social media posts about it than I did for any of the masterminds, communities or coaching. I’ve sent private messages to people I know who need this (yeah, I’m still waiting for your response) because I have such a deep belief that this is way more valuable than what we are charging. Why would I not talk about it?

If someone is not interested, they can just say so. But if I feel it could help them, wouldn’t it be wrong to not at least offer or mention it? Now, these lines can get blurred by people pitching garbage just for numbers. I’m not talking about that at all. I am talking about something that you are so proud of, that is so valuable, that you are excited to share it with all of the people who need it or want it.

So it comes down to that question again.

Are you proud of what you offer?

If you aren’t, it’s time to improve your skills and adjust your offerings until you are proud of it. And if you are proud of it, share it with the people who need it. Solopreneurs and small business owners have been conditioned to not be self-promotional. All the while, the people we are afraid to offer to are buying and recommending products from major corporations who spend a lot of money being promotional!

We’ve been conditioned to talk to our friends about Apple products but not to promote our friends’ business. How twisted is that? We don’t mind a billion dollar company pitching us, but how dare someone that we know try to promote their business on my feed?

Be proud of your work. Be so proud of what you offer that you will tell everyone who needs it. If your business makes the world- or one person’s life- better, you have an obligation to share it. It’s up to them to decide what to do with it.

And do you know what you might be really surprised to hear if you did this?

Thank you. Thank you for offering this. Thank you for thinking of me. Thank you for creating what I needed. Thank you for being helpful enough to create something that benefits others.

If you are bold enough to offer what you are proud of, the rewards given to you will go far beyond the income earned.

Have an AMAZING day!

Nobody Goes There Anymore, It’s Too Crowded

Yogi Berra was the catcher for the New York Yankees for nineteen seasons, making it to fourteen World Series and winning a remarkable ten world championships.  Yet Berra is remembered for his “Yogi-isms” as much as he is remembered for his incredible success on the baseball field. Many of those Yogi-ism’s are still used today.

The Magic of The Unique Blend

How excited would the average candy lover feel if you handed them a regular piece of milk chocolate? I think the level of excitement would be relatively low. What about if you gave them a glob of peanut butter? Not excited for that either, you say?  Yet, by some estimates, the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is the

Why It’s Good For The Soul To Turn Down The Wrong Clients

It is good for the soul to turn down the wrong potential clients. I have said that line for years, but I was reminded of it strongly this past week. In the past twenty-four hours, I turned down two potential clients for our Membership Freedom community who were interested in joining.  What’s interesting is that,

Three Years To Greatness

It takes three years to build it right.   The short-term thinkers hate to hear it. The impatient don’t buy it. But time and time again, it’s proven true. It takes three years to build something from the ground up and make it great.  I say this to every new member of Membership Freedom. I don’t
